Meeting Minutes: September 2008
Attendees: Victoria Webb, Pat Horrocks, Linda Hurlock, Tom O’Donnell,
Gerry Bricks
Upcoming Events:
1. Kennett Square Mushroom Festival: Victoria will have tri-folds and handouts
ready to take down to event. We got 1000 of the tri-folds and 500 of the flyers.
We have money for posters for the public meeting and Exton.
2. Exton Mall: Linda is going to make up a very short (two question) survey
for Exton. We hope to get some information about interest in a public meeting
and if the respondents have any ideas at the time for greenhouse gas emission
reductions in the county.
Linda is able to help with easels although we may get what we need from the
event manager. There is another planning meeting coming up for us to get additional
information.
Schedule: Friday the 17th, 5:00 -9:00, with set-up: Victoria and Tom (can’t
make it)
Saturday, 10:00 – evening, Linda from noon ‘till end if needed,
Rob Bryer 10:00am -1:00PM, Victoria will stop by during the day and help remove
displays. Other committee reps need to help with removal of their own displays:
Waste, Energy, Ag & Forestry.
Displays: Linda might be able to bring a solar panel that runs fan, bring
some CFLs, maybe a hand-mower but we \need to ask about that, Tom will *try
to get some samples of biodiesel, (call Rineer), Victoria will check with
Nancy about the master composters, we discussed some sort of satellite imagery
or poster from perhaps the planning department, Gerry will send couple of
slides to Victoria.
We will talk to Ag this Wednesday about some display materials, Pat’s footprint idea came up and we thought of different sized footprints for different home sources, perhaps we can get a calculator for people – Mike Bullard might have something.
Tom will check with Joy Bergey to see if there are any Penn Future hand-outs that we can use, Gerry will write up a series of questions and answers about common things and CO2.
--Victoria needs to know who is doing what by Sept. 24, the mall planning
meeting.
3. Public Meeting Issues:
We need:
a. Subcommittee person to share status of their work to date
b. the idea is to have stakeholder input before the recommendations come out
c. decide if one meeting is enough
d. perhaps Steve should lead discussion
e. we could have the subcommittees hold tables poster groups for 45 minutes
f. subcommittee chairs would then summarize what they learned
g. Joan Welch’s idea for an event at Sykes Student Union or the cafeteria
seems good to us, Victoria will check on dates.
h. parking is a problem. We might be able to arrange for parking 100 –
200 people is possible
j. we need to do some quality advertising
j. Subcommittee chairs or volunteers must be willing to handle a poster and
report out, We also need approval from WCU
k. Steve must be willing to launch event. 10 minutes
l. we should have refreshments, Victoria will follow up with Aramark
m. example format: mix and mingle for 1⁄2 hour, Steve talks, mingle
formally, reconvene, report our, post on website
n. ask when day and time would work best; sports conflict, school nights,
etc
o. advertising needs to occur in October: churches, schools, townships, YMCAs,
girl and boy scout, 4H, current email list, WCU, 4CP, Bluer, League of Women
Voters, PTAs, charter schools, chambers, EDC
GIS meeting through Planning Department is on November 17, Monday, we are
interested in getting involved, Victoria will check this opportunity out.
4. Victoria is producing a farm video for the Local Food Production segment
of the Ag & Forestry outreach. It will be streamed online and broadcast
on public access tv. We have some funding from the county for the shoot. She
will produce script, edit outreach, and graphics pro-bono.
